Hace un par de meses fui invitada por Rosalba Jaquez (ilustradora y tatuadora del D.F.) a participar en un proyecto que ella coordina, se trata de un libro que recopilará interpretaciones de las cartas de lotería mexicanas,  el proyecto es muy especial por que las ganancias de sus ventas serán para apoyar a una casa hogar de niñas en Aguascalientes, de hecho otra característica es que todas las piezas sean realizadas por mujeres, la idea es re-interpretar la carta y sumarle nuestra visión de la mujer, su lucha, orgullo, amor, etc.

En cuanto tenga más datos del avance del libro lo postearé, espero que sea un link a un sitio o blog del proyecto por si estan interesados en saber más .

Mi carta fue la bota, una bota mágica… y una niña soñadora. Juntos llegarán a cualquier lugar quieran y vivirán aventuras difíciles de creer, pero todas ciertas.  :)

A couple of months ago I was invited by Rosalba Jaquez (illustrator and tattoo artist living in Mexico City) to participate in a project that she’s building up, and it’s about a book that collect interpretations of the mexican lotto cards, made by women artist. The project is so special ’cause the sales profits will be donated to a girls’ orphanage in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The main idea of the reinterpretations is to add our vision about women, their proud, strength, love, etc.

I’ll be posting news about the book as soon as they inform me, hopefully a link to a web site or blog of the project if you’re interested to know more about it.

My card was the boot, a magic boot…and a dreamer girl. Together they’ll arrive to any place they want, and will live adventures hard to believe but all true.

It’s not about the politics or the corporation. It’s about the animals. It’s about not feeling helpless in the face of an overwhelming disaster. We’re illustrators. We don’t lose touch with that kid inside who marvels at the creatures who swim below and fly above the sea. We draw them. We are inspired by them. We need to help them.
The Ripple blog was started on the 45th day of the Deepwater Horizon Catastrophe. The oil spill in the Gulf is now over 50 days old with no sign of stopping. We may be too small as individuals to do some grand gesture- but together our small gestures can be grand.

This week’s Illustration Friday topic is “Ripple”  and I ask you to consider creating your work this week as a small 2.5″  x  3.5″ sketchcard.
The subject should pertain somehow to the Gulf – the oil spill – the oceans and the creatures that live in it and around it. The cards can be submitted to ripplesketches@verizon.net as a jpeg along with your links and a few sentences about you (ie: where you live, etc).

These will be made available for a small donation of $10.00 to either The Institute for Marine Mammal Studie (http://www.imms.org/) or The International Bird Rescue Research Center (http://www.ibrrc.org/) I have no affiliation with them. Every penny will go. When the cards sell, We ask for a donation confirmation and you will be asked to sign the back with a thank you. Then mail them to the address you are sent. If we all do small acts together- we can cause a ripple- and it can grow. ¿Qué ha pasado? Starbucks ha accedido a trabajar a favor de los intereses de los agricultores etíopes mediante un acuerdo de distribución, márketing y licencias donde reconoce a Etiopía el derecho al control de las denominaciones de sus mejores cafés: Harar, Sidamo y Yirgacheffe.

¿ Porqué es tan importante? El proyecto de crear una marca para Etiopía podría generar millones de euros en ingresos extra cada año. Si consideramos que en Etiopía más de 15 millones de personas dependen del cultivo del café, este aumento se traduce en más dinero para invertir en comida, sanidad y educación.

¿ Cómo ha sucedido? Más de 96.000 personas, incluyendo a numerosos grupos de estudiantes, organizaciones no gubernamentales y miembros de comunidades etíopes, han contactado con Starbucks para pedirle que firme el acuerdo – vía correo electrónico, fax, teléfono y visitando sus tiendas.
